what you should know

The town of Minaki, Ontario is located approximately 150 miles east of the Winnipeg International Airport. From there, Birch Island Resort is happy to assist with arranging all of your ground transportation and logistics.

Getting here by air

There are multiple convenient flight options available for reaching the Minaki/Kenora region:

  • Commercial flights are available into Kenora Airport (YQK)
  • Flights between Thunder Bay and Kenora are available through regional carriers such as North Star Air
  • For international travelers, common routes include flying into Toronto, then connecting to Kenora or Thunder Bay

 

Once you arrive in Kenora, Minaki is just a 30-mile drive and can be reached by rental car, shuttle, or arranged transportation.

Minaki also features a local paved runway (2,770 ft), suitable for smaller aircraft.

After clearing Canadian Customs at Fort Frances, drive west on Hwy. 11 to Hwy. 71. Travel north on Hwy. 71 to the Trans-Canada Hwy. 17, then head west on Hwy. 17 to 17A. Turn north onto Hwy. 596 and continue approximately 25 miles to Minaki.

If traveling via Interstate 29 to the Manitoba border, continue north on Hwy. 75. Take the Winnipeg bypass east to Trans-Canada Hwy. 1, then follow east to Hwy. 17A and north on Hwy. 596 (Minaki turn-off).

Follow the signs to the Minaki Marina — this will be your arrival point for transportation to Birch Island Resort.

There is ample and secure parking available, and fishing or hunting licenses can also be obtained at this location.
